Summarizer

There is a flashback to Eddie's Birthday party and going off to the war. Eddie and Marguerite must say good bye for now, until he returns. Eddie, Morton, Smitty, and the Captain burn the mine and it's surrounding buildings. They also manage to get an escape vehicle. Eddie goes into a burning barn to save what he thinks is an innocent person, but in fact just his imagination. He is saved from the fire; however he gets shot in the leg. The captain reminds Eddie of the hope the men had, and the promise that no one gets left behind. The captain then tells Eddie that he was the one who shot him in the leg. Eddie is outraged and confused.

Key points:
1) Marguerite goes over Eddie's house for his birthday, and they say good bye.
2) Soldiers burn down the mine and its surroundings.
3) Eddie goes into the burning building.
4) Eddie is saved, but gets shot in his leg.
5) Eddie learns that the Captain was the one that shot him in the leg, Eddie is outraged with the Captain

It seems ironic that Eddie complains about his leg for the rest fo his life after the war, but it is the result of the captian saving his life. I agree with the key points. It is very improtant to note that Marguriete shows her concern for Eddie before he leaves. Also Eddie learns everyhting about war, except to be a prisioner of war, he learned the hard way.

I think you key points where very good becuase they show how eddie had felt and the events that happened when Eddie was in war. The summary gave good insight to what had happened in this part of the book.

Eddie learns a lot about war i agree. He also learns about the things that are really important. For example he would always complain about his knee. Meanwhile the captain risked his life to help Eddie and the captain ended up dead. I think that showing how Marguriete feels was important too because this might explain things later on in the book.

I agree with your key points and summary. To save Eddies life the captain shot him in the leg, though Eddie only just learns it now. The leg has been a hinderance in Eddies life, though he never knew that someone was saving his life by injuring him, or that the Captain had done it. Showing how Margeurite felt was important as well because it gives us insight on what may happen in the future between them. She is clearly an important figure in his life.
