connector
"Still for countless hours of his boardwalk youth, Eddie waited for his father's attention, sitting on railings or squatting in his short pants atop tool chests in the repair shop. " I think this is a very important aspect of the book that can be related to. Many children are constantly trying to get their parents attention and/or approval. Kids can relate to not meeting up to their parents standards. I think this is something many people can relate to especially during teenage years since its a lot harder to receive their parents attention and the standards could be raised in some situations just like Eddie.
