Connector

Alot of men go to war because they believe it helps them reach their manhood. They also usually have to leave something behind, be it their familiers, friends, or lovers.

The captain tells Eddie that he has to make sacrifices and this is true, he like other soldiers in the war had to leave his loved ones behind him. Unfortunately, he is putting his life at home on hold because of leaving for the war. A majority of soldiers do this today as well, putting their life on hold at home so they can concentrate on the war/fight in it.

Other sacrifices are done during the war, such as people dying for other people or even injuring a fellow soldier in order to save them. The captain did this to Eddie, shooting him in the leg in order to save Eddie from actually dying (by burning in the flames), and Eddie was only finding out now. "...A leg wound would heal..." While his other injury would have been fatal.

I agree that the book connects to the war today. War means giving up a lot of things that you value for a greater cause. Many Soldiers, like Eddie, struggle with the sacrifices they make. Going to war changes you life forever, physically and mentally. I think its a commen difficulty for soldiers who are woonded to lead a normal life after war, just as Eddie had with his leg.

I do feel that the book connects to war. A lot of the parts of the book relate to things in the world today. It shows that soldiers in real life and soldiers in the book go through many struggles and have to make important choices that can affect their lives forever. I agree that many soldiers have a rough time after war and have to deal with the problems they faced during the war. Also many of them leave with wounds and have to deal with getting hurt.
